Ibibio Sound Machine

Merging West African disco, funk and highlife with modern electro, drum’n’bass and post-punk, Ibibio Sound Machine are an exciting, globally diverse stew of influences led by the charismatic Eno Williams, London born but raised in Lagos of a Nigerian family who often sings in the Ibibio dialect, derived from the country’s southern Akwa Ibom State, which also gave the project a title. Williams’ lyrics are often inspired by the folk stories of her peoples’ heritage, matched to genre and cultural spanning soundscapes exemplified further on Doko Mien, their third album released in March. The enthuasiam and vibrancy of the current eight-piece line-up’s live show is impossible to deny or stay still to.
