Our Handmade: Lewys from Tetrad

Continuing our series looking at the people behind the festival, we spoke to Lewys from performance collections TETRAD, who take over The Richard Attenborough Centre on the Sunday of the festival…

Hey Lewys, What have you been doing for Handmade this year?
This year Tetrad is/are contributing a performance art event! We’re working with Handmade to support one undergraduate fine art student to present her work. The event is called Us and Them. It’s a person from out collective performing (Us) and a bunch of other wonderful artists (Them). Us and Them is regularly run series of performance art event for people to show developing work. We’ve worked with Handmade to program this instalment and also festival attendees can get in for free!

What makes the festival important for you?
Handmade Festival has always been great since day 1. I think it brings some sorely needed animation to the city, rolling around drunk in the sun from epic performance to epic performance has always been beautiful to witness.

What’s your favourite memory of previous Handmade years?
I’m torn between getting wrecked at the silent disco last year and Arcane Roots in 2013 or actually, seeing the guitarist with the moustache from ASIWYFA undress an audience member in the front row with his eyes, much to her boyfriends dismay.

Which acts are you looking forward to seeing this year?
Honeyblood because I’m falling in love with them via the Handmade spotify playlist, Tall Ships because I’ve been in love with them since I saw them open for Minus The Bear in Sheffield in 2010, also I’m in love with Ric and their new stuff is really really good and Chris Bragg’s critters because they’re charming and so is he.
