Alexei and Junior (also of itoldyouiwouldeatyou and Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam respectively) were in the currently on hiatus Johnny Foreigner, and while Yr Poetry are by necessity more direct and less complex, not to mention less personally driven, that band’s explosive guitars threaded somewhere between math-rock and punk-pop with smart, self-reflexive lyrics are a good jump-off point.
